SEO Search Engine Optimization is becoming very popular in Belgium. More and more people in Belgium are realising the power and importance of the internet and are becoming marketeers. Eventhough SEO has the funny sounding name of 'SEO zoekmachine optimalisatie' the practice of SEO is pretty much the same as for any other country.

Why do we need to do SEO Search Engine Optimization ? Well to get the higher rank in the Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. It is the duty of the webmaster to optimize their website. What is happening in Belgium is that a lot of SEO companies are offering their services and are doing very well. It seems that Belgian people, and also Dutch people to some extend, are not very familiar with this and thus outsource it to SEO companies.

It is imperative that you know who your target is before you do anything else because if you do not it does not matter how good your web site is. If you do not write to the right market you are not going to get business.

Link Popularity
The more links there are to your site the better your rankings will be. Start a link exchange campaign with similar sites in your industry. You can look for link partners or post requests in our Link Exchange Request Forums. The more relevant the page linking to you the better. Hyperlinks are the key element of your websites and its interconnectedness. Without a link from somewhere else a website is not valuable to the search engines. Without a route via which the search engines spiders can find a site it is not going to be discovered and indexed you certainly. Just a few very high quality backlinks will have far greater value to you as a webmaster than a many poor ones.

In an ideal world the link to your site will be one of just a few on a page. It will be a standard hypertext link with relevant anchor text from a respected, content rich, frequently indexed and genuinely high PR page where that page's content is closely related to the topic of your own site.

Beware! Links from sites with no original content, no web presence, bad neighbourhoods, 'link farms' or identikit web directories will deliver little or no benefit to your site.
