How to Use Traffic Exchanges to Build a Monster List
If you ask most marketers, they'll tell you that traffic exchanges "suck". Unfortunately, that's because they just don't know how to use them.
Most marketers who try out traffic exchanges immediately put their sales pages up on them and expect that they are going to make a ton of sales. Well, that's not how traffic exchanges work.
The concept behind a traffic exchange is simple. You view my site, and I'll view yours. Traffic exchanges work on a credit system. In other words, for every site you view you get a credit that you can use to have your site shown to others.
Traffic exchanges work on a timer system. Most traffic exchanges show each each site for about 10 seconds. There are some that are longer, and even some that are shorter.
If you want to experience success with traffic exchanges, you have to understand the psychology behind them. The idea is to get as many credits as possible so that you can turn them into views for your own sites. That means the user is going to click as soon as they can. Put simply, you have about 10 seconds to make your pitch.
This is what most marketers fail to comprehend. They put up a lengthy sales letter and expect that the other surfers are going to read it. The fact is that the other surfers are only going to take in what they can take in in 10 seconds or less.
The only question now should be: How do you use that 10 seconds to your advantage? The answer is simple. You use simple squeeze pages (referred to as "splash" pages by most traffic exchange surfers).
These pages should be short and straight to the point, and tell the surfer what they will get if they opt-in to your list. Squeeze, or splash pages are really the only sites you should be submitting to traffic exchanges.
If you have a really effective splash page, you can get hundreds of subscribers using traffic exchanges. The splash page should be simple, attractive, and easy to navigate. The use of big colored arrows pointing to the opt-in box is a great tactic to use.
Using traffic exchanges to build your list is almost like an art. You have to find that perfect copy that is going to make the surfer almost feel like they've lost something big if they don't opt-in.
Another important factor in a successful traffic exchange campaign is time management. You need to set up a rigid schedule for your surfing. Remember, time is money, and if you surf too long and don't get enough subscribers, you could actually be losing money.
Start out with 2 or 3 of the top exchanges and set a time or surf limit. I surf 100 sites on each of my 5 favorite exchanges every day. Now, you may think that's a lot, but if you use tabbed browsing, it really doesn't take long. I can usually get this done in under an hour. That's 500 views every day to my squeeze pages. If I can get an opt-in rate of just 2% (which is average), that's 10 subscribers.
The rule is that every subscriber is worth $2. So, if you can get 10 subscribers in an hour, theoretically you've just made $20 per hour! Are you starting to see the power in traffic exchanges now?
So, what are the best exchanges? Well, in my experience, you'll get the best results with these 3:
1. Sweeva
2. HitsBoosterPro
3. I Love Hits
Now, there is a way to get views to your sites without ever having to surf, and that's to get referrals. If you build your downline by getting others to sign up under your affiliate links, you can get a percentage of every credit they earn.
If you can get enough active referrals, you can actually earn enough credits every day to get your site seen many times.
I know it can be confusing and difficult to try and promote all 5 of the above sites individually, but there is a way that you won't have to.
