Website Traffic Analysis

It is not enough to just drive traffic to your website. You need to know where that traffic is coming from, and what sorts of people are getting attracted to your site. To find out you will need to do some website traffic analysis. There are a variety of ways to do this

Website stats:

All this information can be found with your website stats. These can be found on your Cpanel or similar application through your web hosting.

  • Timing: These stats will tell you how many visitors have come to your site on a certain date and even on a specific time of day. With these stats you can detect a pattern of behavior for your visitors. They may come in the early morning or late at night. This will indicate that you have an International market for your product. Other visitors may come mainly within your business hours, which will tell you that your market is mainly domestic.

  • What web pages they are looking at: it is important to know exactly which web pages are attracting your visitors and which ones are producing sales.

  • Where are they are actually coming from: another set of stats will let you know where your visitors have come from. This will tell you the particular search engine that the people have entered your site from. This is very useful for search engine promotions, so that you can see how many visitors are really coming from each search engine

Google stats:

If you are doing Google Adwords campaigns you can take advantage of their good tracking system. It will help you with website traffic analysis in the following ways:

  • Which keywords are bringing in traffic?

  • Which keywords are bringing sales?

  • How much each visitor is costing you? The cost of your traffic is an important factor in PPC advertising, looking at Google stats will determine whether you need to adjust the bidding on them.

This is how you will tell how a keyword is performing and will understand how much traffic and sales are coming from your Google campaigns and whether you are getting sufficient ROI from them to make this form of marketing worth your while.

Market analysis:

This is an important part of traffic analysis. Knowing who your visitors are and where they go is an important part of Internet marketing. you should ask yourself these questions. Who they are? Demographics are useful to know. Ages of your visitors are important as this will determine their needs and wants. Their lifestyle is also good to know as this is another determining factor in what products and services they will need.

Where they go? The places they like to visit are important for marketing to them. This will include their favorite websites, forums, discussion boards and publications. By doing this type of website traffic analysis you can learn all about each and every part of your website visitors.
